Effective Treatment of Psoriasis for Volusia and Flagler Counties
Psoriasis is a common skin condition that causes skin redness and irritation. Most people with psoriasis have thick, red plaques with flaky, silver-white patches called scales. Psoriasis can appear suddenly or come on slowly. Often, it goes away and then comes back from time to time.
Symptoms can include:
- Irritated, red, flaky patches of skin
- Most often seen on the elbows, knees, and center line of the body
- Red patches may appear anywhere on the body, including the scalp
The skin may be:
- Dry and covered with silver, flaky skin (scales)
- Pink-red in color (like the color of salmon)
- Raised and thick
The goal of treatment is to control your symptoms and prevent infection. Associated Dermatologists treats this condition several different ways depending upon the severity, extent and location. Treatment could include the use of topical creams or injections or could include the use of UVA phototherapy, Narrowband UVB phototherapy or Xtrac laser.
We are the only local Dermatologist office to offer the following Psoriasis treatments:
UVA (ultraviolet light A) phototherapy is recommended for adults who have moderate to severe cases of psoriasis. Psoriasis of the palms and soles are most responsive to UVA treatment. UVA treatment requires additional medication to be taken in conjunction with the procedure. This treatment is not normally given to children or teenagers, however, it can be used by young people to avoid unwanted side effects of other treatments or if other treatments have not been successful.
UVB Narrow-Band Phototherapy
UVB (ultraviolet light B) phototherapy in many ways is becoming more widely used. This procedure is easier for people to undergo in that no other medication is required and it may be safer over the long term. Associated Dermatologists offers full body Narrowband UVB equipment.
XTRAC® is a great leap forward in the treatment of psoriasis, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis and leukoderma treating only the lesions and not the surrounding healthy skin. This innovative therapy works on mild, moderate or severe cases. It can be used on any location on the body but is especially excellent for hard to treat areas such as the scalp, knees or elbows. There is no anesthesia and the XTRAC treatment is pain free. It is safe to use on pregnant or nursing women.
While psoriasis is a chronic disease with no known cure, it can be put into longed remission with treatments that manage its symptoms and clear its visible signs. XTRAC light treatment, the only FDA-cleared excimer laser, is clinically proven to slow and reverse the growth of psoriatic cells.
